GC-1 (Sobetirome) is a selective thyroid hormone receptor-β (TRβ) agonist. By selectively targeting TRβ over TRα, it activates thyroid hormone-responsive genes involved in cholesterol clearance, fatty acid oxidation, and hepatic lipid metabolism without the cardiovascular and bone effects associated with TRα activation. Research applications include models of dyslipidaemia, metabolic syndrome, hypothyroidism, and hepatic lipid regulation.
