Somatropin is a recombinant form of human growth hormone (rHGH), a 191-amino acid single-chain polypeptide synthesised in the anterior pituitary. It signals through the GH receptor to activate JAK2-STAT5 pathways, inducing hepatic IGF-1 synthesis and exerting direct anabolic effects on protein synthesis, lipolysis, and carbohydrate metabolism. Research applications include investigation of somatotropic axis function, IGF-1 signalling, body composition regulation, and GH deficiency models.
